Jewish Stories

There are two minor episodes of history in Dearborn County. The first relates to Harry Vigran, a Lithuanian-Jewish immigrant. Vigran operated a clothing store in Aurora, Indiana beginning in 1906 and operated it for 13 years before he shut it down in 1919 and joined the rest of his family in nearby Richmond, Indiana.

The second story in Dearborn County's Jewish history relates to Henry Adler, a lawyer from Lawrenceburg, Indiana. In 1872, Adler gifted $10,000 (worth roughly $262,000 by modern standards) to Isaac Mayer Wise to help fund the creation of Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio.
